— London · July 12–23, 2027

Two weeks, one exam, fifteen students.

Taught in person by Doug Poggioli and Alexandra Burston, each of whom teaches the whole exam. Nine days of classes, a full SAT on the last day, and afterward a written report on where your child stands. The same approach as the tutoring: understanding first.

01Who teaches it

Two teachers. Both teach the whole exam.

Alexandra Burston

Doug has taught since 1990 — twenty years of it at the American School in London — and has tutored privately, full time, since 2019. He designed this seminar, and has taught both halves of the SAT for many years. Students who work with him tend to leave able to explain their own reasoning out loud, which is what the SAT, and every exam after it, is testing.

Alexandra — Alex — was Doug’s student before she was his colleague. She went on to Yale, then to the Courtauld Institute, then spent four years specializing in SAT and ACT preparation at ESM Prep. In 2019 she founded TRP Education, her own practice guiding students through testing and American college applications. She works with many of the same families Doug does.

Both are in the room every day. A group of fifteen is never waiting on one person, and a student who is stuck gets two explanations, not one.

02What happens

Before, during, and after.

  • Before July

Your child sits a diagnostic at home, in their own time, or shares a recent official score. Doug and Alex see where they’re starting from before anyone walks in — and nobody’s first morning is a test.

  • The ten days

Weekdays, ten to twelve and one to three, all fifteen together. Both halves of the exam across the two weeks. Doug and Alex stay through lunch, and until four for anyone with questions.

    10–121–3until 4 · optional

  • The last day

A full SAT, timed, on the College Board’s own software. Then pizza.

  • Within a week

A written report from Doug and Alex. The diagnostic and the final test side by side, what’s solid, what isn’t, and what to do in the fall.

03Who it’s for

Students starting early, on purpose.

This seminar is for students who will be in their junior year in September 2027 — Grade 11 in the American system, Year 12 in the British — at a British, American, or international school, and who would rather build the foundation for the SAT in July than assemble it in October.

It suits a student sitting the SAT for the first time who wants to understand the exam before worrying about a number. It also suits one who has already sat it and wants two people who know the test well to find what is holding the score back.

It is probably not the right fit for a student already scoring above 1500 and chasing the last fifty points. That is what one-on-one work with Doug is for.

—In their words
“From the very first session something clicked. Topics I had struggled with for weeks became my strengths. The lessons were productive and enjoyable, and guided me through the whole SAT process to a score I am very proud of.”Mark · Former student, American School in London
04The practical part

What it costs, and how it works.

£6,000 including VAT

That covers the two weeks, the diagnostic, the final test, all materials, the written report, and refreshments each day. Lunch is not included — there is an hour for it, and plenty of places nearby. There is nothing else to pay.

  • Dates

Monday, July 12 to Friday, July 23, 2027. Weekdays.

  • Where

At the offices of Edvice London — Barkat House, 116–118 Finchley Road, London NW3 5HT. Finchley Road station is a short walk.

  • Places

Fifteen. They are offered on fit, not first come, first served.

  • Paying

If we offer a place and you accept, we hold it for you. We ask for a deposit of £1,200 in January 2027, and the balance of £4,800 by June 11. Nothing is due before then.

  • If it doesn’t run

The seminar is confirmed once ten families have paid deposits, and we’ll tell you either way by May 17, 2027. If it isn’t confirmed, or if for any reason we cancel, everything you’ve paid comes back in full. Until it’s confirmed, your deposit is refundable if you change your mind.

  • If you change your mind

You may cancel any booking within fourteen days of making it, for any reason, for a full refund. After that, and once the seminar is confirmed, the deposit reflects a place we can no longer offer to another student — but if we fill your place from the waiting list, we refund you.

The full terms are here: Seminar Terms.

05How to apply

Tell us about your child. We reply within two working days.

Applying isn’t a commitment. Tell us where your child is, what they’re aiming for, and how they learn. Doug and Alex read every application themselves. If it’s a fit, we offer a place. If we’re not sure, we’ll write back with a question or two. If we don’t think the seminar is right, we’ll say so and suggest what is.

We read applications rather than fill places in order, because a room of fifteen only works if each of them should be in it.

The application form opens shortly.Until then, write to admin@learnlocus.com with your child’s name, school, and year, and we’ll send it to you directly.
